Freebooter Miniatures is a German company producing mostly 30mm size metal miniatures for gamers, collectors and painters. The company is owned and run by Werner Klocke who has been a freelance sculptor for 30 years. His credits include sculpts for such well-known companies as Games Workshop, Reaper and Pivateer Press, among others. He has become particularly known for his love of dynamic poses and his skill at capturing the female form. Two years ago, Freebooter Miniatures successfully launched its own game, Freebooter’s Fate, a card-based, pirate-themed, diceless, tabletop skirmish game, which has had people going “Arrr!” all over the world since then and has already had two expansion sets published for it.
This year, Freebooter Miniatures celebrates its first 10 years in business. So what better way for a miniatures company to celebrate an event like that than to issue a set of limited edition special anniversary miniatures? Exactly.
So the idea was born to design a set of characters which were special: Legends of our game world, given the outstanding and finely-detailed physical form which our customers have come to expect from us.
Doing it via crowdfunding gives us the opportunity to add a few extra options which would not have been feasible in the classic business model and it gives you the opportunity to decide exactly how deeply to become involved.
Sounds interesting? It gets better. Read on.
So what can you expect to receive when forking out your hard-earned doubloons? Well, at the basic level, the project is about a set of five miniatures, depicting legendary characters from the world of Freebooter’s Fate. They have all left their mark in different ways and, in addition to unique abilities for each individual, they all use a new rules mechanic, called the Fate Point System.
And here they are:
Raven, aka Mistress of Shadows – an Imperial Noble, clandestine supporter of the Brotherhood and practitioner of a very dark and shadowy form of mysticism.
Maestro Cerebro & Birro – a mad goblin inventor of things that go Boom! and his long-suffering assistant who fusses over him like an old hen.
El Almirante – a heroic young man who in his declining years will become Gobernador of Longfall.
Captain Antoinette Balfour – an excellent sailor but a rotten leader, grubby, rum-sodden and not especially bright.
Ixchelcoatl – a legendary high priestess of the Amazons.
Of course, once you go beyond the basic level, and the more people get involved, the more advanced the options get. The beauty of crowdfunding projects is that you can go for the safe option of a basic pledge (our “Pirate” level) which gets you a guaranteed set of stuff, provided the project reaches its minimum funding level.
In our case, this minimum level sits at USD 5,000.
Alternatively, you can invest a bit more money (with a “Captain” level) and reap the benefits when more people become involved and the project really takes off. Once certain funding levels are reached (see below), the return for your initial pledge grows, even though you don’t you have pay any additional money.
These benefits can include additional parts or substitute parts for the characters, such as better weapons, sidekick characters or other miscellaneous stuff. Most of these add-ons are accompanied by character or equipment cards which take our already impressive Legends to even greater levels of power. Neat, huh?
Not all extra goals give you automatic bonuses, though, some release additional pledging/update options. These can be available for all pledge levels or just for specific ones, please see below for details.
So what happens once the campaign is over? Well, these miniatures are intended as a once-off special on the occasion of our 10 year anniversary. And once that is over, they will no longer be available from us. In fact, most of these sets will only be available as part of this Indiegogo campaign. The best way to secure your miniature(s) is to pledge the amount for what you’d like, spread the word among your mates so they get in on it as well and the project reaches not only its minimum funding level but also some stretch goals. Once this campaign is over, we cannot guarantee that we will have any models left over. They will at most be available until the end of our anniversary year. So, even if we have some unpledged ones left over, we will only sell them until October 2013. At a higher price. Only while stocks last. And that will be it. At Freebooter Miniatures, limited production run really does mean limited production run.

All miniatures are sculpted by Werner Klocke.
All sets are securely shipped in padded envelopes, there is no box.
All miniatures are made from metal. They will be supplied as unassembled, unbased kits, except where explicitly stated otherwise. They are all supplied with the standard Freebooter's Fate plastic bases with metal inserts.
The miniatures and all additional parts are 30mm size like all the other Freebooter’s Fate miniatures.
Each character comes with all the cards necessary to make it usable in Freebooter’s Fate, in German and in English.
Each set comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Here's the deal in detail: You tell us what kind of miniature you would like, provided it is humanoid in shape, roughly human-sized and fits one of the Freebooter's Fate crews. We will provide concept sketches with your likeness or the likeness desired by you. The character will become part of a crew in the next Freebooter's Fate expansion book to be published next year, so we will write some rules for it as well. This means that we will also be giving it a name based on your own or based on your suggestions. Please keep in mind that the character will have to fit into the world of Freebooter's Fate, please don't ask for male Amazons, for example.
In addition to your place in gaming history, you will also receive the orignal green of the character.
