We're holding this Kickstarter project to able to create the QuickStarter rules (see what we did there?) and the first Starter Sets for Darklands, to enable all of our fans to be a part of its growth from a few nice miniatures to a full-blown wargame.
The Starter Sets outlined here are either sculpted or ready to be sculpted - we just need a hand from here to bring them to market, and with our proven track record of producing stunning resin miniatures we know we can deliver on time and without hassle.
The QuickStarter Rules and a Starter Set (along with a friend who has a Starter Set) are all you need to play!
We appreciate all of those people who have supported us in the past and, indeed, all of you that will support us in this Kickstarter. Without you, neither Darklands nor Mierce Miniatures would exist! Everyone who backs us in this Kickstarter will have their name mentioned in the QuickStarter rulebook, with a message of thanks!
There's two major pledges to go for - the Infantry Starter Set (£60, approximately $100) or the Monstrous Infantry Starter Set (£80, approximately $125) - but there's eight different variants of them so there's plenty of choice.
All pledges made for any of these Starter Sets (in any combination) will ensure you'll have access to a ton of stretch goals and other offers!
Each Starter Set varies in content from kindred to kindred but all of them include the all-important Darklands QuickStarter Rules and some quite stunning resin miniatures - and, of course, they are a fantastic way to get into Darklands before it's released and still stay friends with your wallet!

Funding Achieved!
Wow! To say that we didn't expect our Kickstarter project to be funded within seven hours is an understatement. We're a bit shell-shocked!
We humbly thank everyone who has allowed us to meet our funding goal of £5,000 - thank you very much guys, and it's great to see people as excited about Darklands as we are.
So, now that we've achieved our Funding Goal, let's reward you with about a third off some of our most amazing miniatures - increase your pledge by the amount indicated and you can grab these:

Stretch Goals
There will, of course, be many, many stretch goals should we achieve our target funding and each stretch goal target will be unveiled just after the previous one has been met. This should ensure there will be plenty of excitement and lots more cool stuff to go for and - depending on the amount pledged - more Starter Sets for the other factions and a ton of never before seen concepts and miniatures!
£15,000 Stretch Goal
Now that we've achieved our funding goal we can unveil our first Stretch Goal, £15,000! Anybody who has pledged for a Starter Set in any form or combinatoin will receive one of the following miniatures, for free:
Please note that these are "fixed" for the Starter Set you want - so, for example, if you go for the Angelcynn Infantry Starter Set, you'll get Meloda.
Also note that these "free" miniatures are budgeted in such a way that no one Starter Set gains an advantage from another. The cost of the Brutes, Drune-Goaders and Ungefelic, for example, are roughly equal to all of the other monstrous infantry Starter Sets. So you won't be getting a bad deal if you get a man-sized miniature!
These will ship with the Starter Set in question, of course and do not incur extra shipping charges.
One last point: there will also be another Stretch Goal that gives you a free miniature at some point, as long as we reach the target funding in our heads, of course ;o)
£25,000 Stretch Goal
Wowser! We are astonished that the £15,000 "freebie" stretch goal is achieved, and so quickly - in three days! Thank you all!
Our next stretch goal is set for £25,000 and gives you some fantastic monsters to terrorise the neighbours with. We've also added a request - the four Tarvax warriors (for those who already have Ckaarakk and Kaastaruk) and three Troll warriors (for those who already have Vörtun and Gjöll) separately from their Starter Sets!
All you have to do to get a hold of either Gynroch ap Roch, Kadámastar, Shaaroc, 4x Tarvax Warriors or 3x Troll Warriors is to increase your pledge by £40 ($62)!
Additionally, we've brought in a couple of concepts to show off and increase your pledges for - the awesome Cearl, Werwulf Thegn for the Angelcynn and Carrowek of Carn Dhu on horse for the Ysians. Cearl will be of monstrous infantry size and is a Warchief for Mierce; Carrowek on Horse is, rather obviously, Carrowek on horseback, although you won't believe the size of his horse... and that's not a euphemism! His horse is a normal horse's head with a skull on top, by the way.
Carrowek's sculpt is already in progress and Cearl's will not be far behind. Both will ship at the same time as the Starter Sets for their kindred (so June for Cearl and April for Carrowek on Horse).

£30,000 Stretch Goal
The £25,000 stretch goal is almost achieved and we think it would be nice to reveal the next one, in which we give some free miniatures to those who have pledged for a Starter Set!
Both Ssibyros, Gorgonarchon of Khthon and Geraint Nerthol, Tiern of Cedweli ("Mighty Geraint") are completely new, never-before-seen concepts and with Cearl and Carrowek on Horse represent the next phase of our miniatures line. Ssibyros will be sculpted by Thomas David and Geraint's sculptor is a secret, for now...
If we achieve this stretch goal, there will be more stretch goals for free stuff - but ONLY if we reach this £30,000 Stretch Goal! It's our aim that each kindred gets something new during this Kickstarter in addition to the Starter Sets (either free or to be pledged extra for) - so get your mates and your rellies and anybody else you can think of to pledge for a Starter Set!

This £35,000 stretch goal is something to aim towards, because after that there'll be another freebie stretch. There's some really cool stuff at £35,000 to get your teeth into because the theme is MONSTERS (mostly) - just look at Uuthüll and Mjagnir! They're huge!
We've also got two new miniatures to show you: Penda on horse, who will ship in September 2013 I'm afraid (JAG is very busy!) and a mighty new departure for the Khthones - Chysperis, Fídron of Khthon, who stands a massive 162mm to the tip of his tail. He's absolutely HUGE and is the embodiment of Khthon for pretty much all of the Khthones; as such, he's treated reverentially by them and not only because he's blimmin' massive (we'll add him to the scale shots to show you)! Chysperis will ship with the Khthones Starter Set in September 2013.
All you have to do to get a hold of any of the miniatures shown on the £35,000 stretch goal is to increase your pledge by the amount shown! Remember, if you want multiples of a miniature, just increase your pledge by the price times the number you want!

Please note, Cormorágg is Albainn - but the Brythoniaid do ally with that kindred through their northern kingdoms of Gododdin and Rheged, mainly thanks to Cunedda, who founded the kingdom of Gwynedd and retained strong ties with the peoples to the north. Thus, you'll be able to use the Albainn if you're a Brythoniaid player!

£40,000 Stretch Goal - Kickstarter Exclusives!
Yesterday was a cracking day of pledging and backing and so we're bringing you the next Stretch Goal a little early to celebrate, especially as it includes two Kickstarter Exclusive miniatures - one of which is free to everyone who has pledged for a Starter Set when we reach £40,000!
That's right, when we get to £40,000, everyone who has pledged for a Starter Set will receive Urbad, Vagrant Oghurithne for free! We are teasing you a little with the artwork silhouette, we know, but when we reach £30,000 we'll unveil the full concept art by Stefan Kopinski. When we get to £35,000 we'll show you the miniature itself, which stands around 60mm tall!
You may be wondering why you'd want Urbad, of course: well, he is an Albainn Sell-Sword and will work for any kindred, which means you can all use him in your hosts. He's a vagrant Oghurithne (basically a wild hill man, a cross between a human and a full-on Oghur) who likes to ply his wares around the lands to make a bit of money and also bang people out that get in his way with his stone mattock. In other words, he's useful!
As well as Urbad, we've decided to have Penda on horse sculpted with his wolf helm on, and whilst he won't be free he's a cracking alternative to the unhelmed Penda - just increase your pledge by £30 to get him!
Why would you want him, you may ask, when Penda without helm is £20? Well, unhelmed Penda on horse's RRP will be £30 and both Penda on horse with Wolf Helm and Urbad will only ever be available during this Kickstarter project - although we do reserve the right to use them as convention-only miniatures or as prizes in the future. Even so, we won't be attending any conventions this year - so you'll have them way ahead of anyone else!
Effectively, they'll be very, very rare - how amazing is that!
Note: if you've already got a Starter Set or have pledged for either Urbad or Penda on horse with Wolf Helm, you can increase your pledge to get more than one of either - that's your perk, having backed us!
To re-iterate:
Urbad will be free with any Starter Set once we get to £40,000.
You can increase your pledge by £20 to get another Urbad, or £30 for Penda on horse with Wolf Helm, as many times as you wish.
Once we reach £40,000, you can get Urbad as a reward on this Kickstarter for £20 (~$30) if you don't want a Starter Set.

Scale Shots
A number of people were asking about scale shots, so we've provided one that shows the size of each kindred's infantry, monstrous infantry and monstrous beast!
Hopefully that will show everyone just how big our big dudes really are - and thus explains their price!
Fine Quality Miniatures
All of our miniatures are made from high quality, non-toxic polyurethane resin and are rightly regarded as some of the finest 30mm scale miniatures in the world. Our miniatures are manufactured in house and our quality control is second to none, and we are constantly striving to ensure the casts you receive are as close to the master miniature as possible. We care about the cast that you get - just have a look at the detail held on Carrowek of Carn Dhu, shown at approximately three times the size of his actual cast height, 72mm:
Important: all miniatures are supplied unassembled and unpainted, and each comes with a round plastic base of appropriate size - either 30mm for infantry or 60mm for monstrous infantry.

RISKS AND CHALLENGESLearn about accountability on Kickstarter
The team behind Mierce Miniatures have been creating and manufacturing miniatures for a number of years now and have produced tens of thousands of resin miniatures - some of which are incredibly complicated to make - over that time. Long experience in the wargaming industry coupled with an in-depth knowledge of the logistics required to bring miniatures to market ensure that we will be able to deliver on every single pledge exactly on time - if not earlier!
All that being said, sometimes those gremlins work hard as hard as we do too, but if there are unavoidable delays (which we seriously doubt) anybody who pledges will be the first to know about them. Many of the miniatures you can pledge for are already being manufactured but for those that aren't, it must be noted that the artists and sculptors we work with are genuine professionals and work very hard to meet their deadlines!
It is worth re-iterating that we are not dependent upon another company in a country on the other side of the world to manufacture our products - they are all made and packaged on our premises and so we are very confident we can deliver on all of the pledges with no problems whatsoever!
One thing that may concern some people is that Mierce Miniatures is somehow tainted by association with the former owners of our miniatures range, Maelstrom Games. We can assure you that this should not be so. Mierce Miniatures is a completely separate legal entity, existing from March 2012, and purchased the BaneLegions range entirely legally from Maelstrom Games in May of 2012 (rebranding 90% of it as Darklands) - long before Maelstrom Games' troubles began. We are unaffected by any issues regarding Maelstrom Games whatsoever and this Kickstarter project will be fulfilled - as long as we reach our target, of course!
Remember, too, Kickstarter's own words: if you don't like a project, don't back it. There's no need to be a jerk!
